The world has become a smaller place to live in....Or has it?

Okay, first of all i'm uploading this from my phone so it'll have a ton of mistakes so please excuse them. :)

I've read in a lot of places that the world has become a really small place to live in. I mean everyone is so connected, yea a lot because of the rapid advancement in technology. I mean social networking sites are being thronged by zillons of people. The call rates have dropped drastically from what they were. Its like so easy to talk to someone even in antartica today. You can still be the best of friends with someone who you don't meet for years together. Yea and thats because there is a way to connect, and more importantly everyone has access to this way of connection.

But what my question really is that with this kind of virtual connection, are we losing the real connection? I mean ya you stay in touch and all that but is it the same when you meet and interact with that person. I mean with this whole virtual world talking over, are people saying lol instead of laughing? * I personally know of someone who did that once and let me tell you, it was weird. * Ya well, coming back, I'm just wondering if this whole virtual world is bring us closer or talking is apart?

yes face to face contact is def better than anything that technology can provide , but impatience is the new fad... everyone, all around the world is looking to do things FASTER. Formalities , courtesy calls are all going to be obsolete. SO there is nothing weird about using the LOLs or LMAOs ....

wow. who died?
lol, i mean.. why so serious?
Talking online has its own pro's and cons. You can take time to choose your words and mis communications are less common.
I personally hate texting and IM'ing but it shouldn't be all that bad.
Whether people LOL in person, is upon the level to which they are hooked to it. I guess a lil bit of both is ideal.
Oh and btw, keep the updates coming! :)
